LIQUID MEASURING TIPS AND CONVERSIONS

  • Avoid pouring liquid ingredients into measuring device over bowl. Pouring over the mixing bowl could result in spillage and too much liquid in your recipe OR inaccurate measurement if measuring device is tilted or off center.
  • Use clear measuring device, placed on level flat surface for accurate measurement.
  • Be sure to fill to correct mark/rim on measuring device for accurate amounts.
  • For sticky ingredients – first spray the measuring device with a non-stick spray or brush with vegetable oil
  • If measuring fats such as butter, margarine – let them come to room temperature. It makes them easy to pack into the measuring device.

DRY MEASURING TIPS AND CONVERSIONS

  • Avoid pouring dry ingredients into measuring device over bowl. Pouring over the mixing bowl could result in spillage and too much ingredient in your recipe OR inaccurate measurement if measuring device is tilted or off center.
  • Place measuring device on level flat surface with plate or flexible cutting board under for accurate measurement and to be able to put overflow back into container.
  • Tap measuring device with knife or utensil to eliminate air pockets. Add additional ingredient if necessary.
  • Measure final form of ingredient, i.e. if the recipe calls for chopped onion – measure after you chop the onion.
  • A pinch means 1/8 tsp or less of dry ingredient
  • Pack brown sugar or rice (or other sticky ingredients) tightly to ensure proper measurement.
